BeLUG at Comic Con Brussels

The past weekend, a brave buch of AFOL's relocated to the Belgium capital to attend Comic Con Brussels, the first comic and sci-fi convention of 2017.

And of course, that means we can show you the pictures of our booth, as pictures have been taken by both Hans and John and the convention, just click their names to get to their Facebook albums.

I also made a short video of our booth on saturday before the opening, which you could already have seen on our Facebook page, but can be found in this post as well, because, well, convenience is what we are all about ;-)

I also wrote up a completely subjective report of the event, but as the pictures went mostly "doo-daa" due to a new cellphone I still need to get used to, I must warn you to watch at your own risk hehe.

New Club Project: Micro Island!

The Time Traveller has travelled along it's time (pun intended), so for 2017 we are launching a new club project collaborative build, this time based on a concept by Kris Bollen and his team.

Micro Island is just what the title says: a micro scaled island.  So tag along as we take a look at what this project involves:

Note: If you are going to participate in this collaboration, it is asked that you also make a short "straight beach section" to go with your modules, in order to nicely line the island edge.

Zoals je ziet is het een echt eiland waar doormiddel van 16x16 tegels (of een veelvoud) een volledig eiland tot stand komt. In het midden van het eiland een micropolis, en aan de randen weilanden, akkers en uiteindelijk de zee in de vorm van een blauw tafellaken.

Comme vous voyez, il s’agit d’une île, constituée de plaques de 16x16. Au milieu de l’île, il y a un ‘micropolis’ et sur les bords il y a des champs et des plaines, en terminant dans la mer (nappe bleue).

Het is een werk in wording, maar voor alles hebben we maten vastliggen.

C’est un travail en cours, mais toutes les dimensions ont été fixées. 
As you can see, it is a real island which is formed by the use of  16x16 (or a multitude of them) tiles.  In the middle of the island a micropolis will be placed, while it's edges will consist of green lands, farm areas and in the end the sea, represented by a blue tablecloth.



Zo is een tegel 16x16, met het landschap op 2 noppen hoog, en een weg van 1 nop breed. Het zijn dus niet bestaande maatvoeringen maar een eigen ontwerp omdat bij bestaande ontwerpen we de straten te breed vonden.

Une plaque fait 16x16, le paysage commence à une hauteur de 2 tenons et les routes sont un tenon de large. Il s’agit d’un nouveau concept, ce n’est pas inspiré d’autres standards... 
So this is an example of a 16x16 tile, with a 2 stud high landscape and a road 1 stup wide.  These aren`t existing measurement sizes, but a design of our own making as with the existing collaborations the roads got to wide.



Ik ben momenteel bezig met een haven, een strand met pier, weilanden en akkers, een berg ...
Jochen en Johnny doen mee en zijn vooral bezig met hoge gebouwen voor het centrum van micropolis.

Pour l’instant, je travaille encore à un port, une jetée, une montagne, etc. Jochen et Johnny travaillent principalement sur la ville avec des hauts bâtiments pour le centre de micropolis. 
I`m currently building a harbour, with beach and pier, grasslands and fields, a mountain... Jochen and Johnny are mosty occupied with building high buildings for the centre of the micropolis.

Mijn 2 dochters doen ook mee en zijn bezig met huisjes en boompjes te maken en bootjes en autos en vrachtwagens.

Mes deux filles contribuent également: elles s’occupent des maisons, des arbres, des petits bateaux et des camions.

Dit is de basis tegel. Welke gebouwen erop komen is een vrije keuze.

Ceci est la plaque de base. Libre choix des bâtiments qui sont construits dessus. 
This is the basic tile.  Which buildings are placed on this is a free choice.

Landtegel - 16x16 - hoogte 2 bricks - straten: light bluish grey tiles van 1 breed - technic bricks aan de zijkant om de tegels aan elkaar te klikken. Een manier om je eigen tegels te herkennen is om een unieke kleur te gebruiken voor de hoeken. Bij mij zijn de 1x1 bricks op de hoeken ALTIJD wit. Als iedere ontwerper een andere LEGO kleur kiest kunnen we uiteindelijk wel zien van wie welke tegel is.

Plaque de terrain – 16*16 – hauteur de deux briques; rues: tuiles en light bluish grey de 1 de large; briques Technic sur les côtés pour pouvoir attacher les modules. Une façon de reconnaître vos propres plaques est d’utiliser une couleur unique sur les coins (chez moi, les briques 1*1 sur les coins sont toujours blanches). Si chacun choisit sa propre couleur, nous n’aurons pas de problème à identifier ce qui est à qui. 
Landtile - 16x16 - height of 2 bricks - streets: light blueish grey tiles of 1 stud width - Technic bricks at the side to connect the tiles to each other.  One way to recognise your tiles is to use a unique colour for the corners.  I always use 1x1 on the corners in white.  If every designer picks another colour, it will be easy to see who owns which tile.

Voertuigen: een auto is 1x2 en een vrachtwagen 1x3 tot 1x4.

Véhicules: une voiture est de 1*2 et un camion de 1*3 à 1*4. 
Vehicles: a car is 1x2 and a truck is 1x3 to 1x4.

Personen: er worden geen mannetjes getoond vermits deze te klein zijn.

Personnes: nous ne montrons pas de personages, vu qu’ils sont trop petits.
People: they won`t be included because they are way to small.



Uiteraard mag je 4 (of meer) tegels combineren tot een grotere tegel. Enkel straten op de rand zijn verplicht. Binnenin doe je wat je zelf wilt qua landschap (heuvel...) en qua straten (doodlopend, andere kleur ...)

Bien sûr vous pouvez combiner 4 (ou plus) de plaques pour faire quelque chose de plus grand. La seule obligation est d’avoir des rues sur les côtés. A l’intérieur vous déterminez vous-même ce que vous faites en tant que paysage et rues (impasses, autres couleurs,...) 
Of course you can combine 4 (or more) tiles into one big tile.  Only the streets at the edges are required to be included.  Inside you can do with the landscape what you want (hill, ...) and for the streets (colour, dead ends,...)

De bovengetoonde maat van 32x32 gaat voor de meesten onder jullie het beste werken om een mooie cityblock te maken.

Le module ci-dessus de 32*32 sera pour beaucoup d’entre vous le plus efficace pour faire un beau bloc de ville. 
The above shown size of 32x32 might be working the best for people to build a lovely city block.

Dit is een voorbeeld van een rechte rand tegel.

De onderste laag is strand, al de rest tot aan de weg is gras.

La couche inférieure est la plage, le reste jusqu’à la route est de l’herbe.
The bottom layer is beach, the rest until it reaches the road is grass.

De voorlaatste foto geeft de minimale hoogte op de rand van de tegel aan, terwijl de laatste foto de maximale hoogte op de rand van een tegel aangeeft.

L’avant-dernière photo donne la hauteur minimale sur le bord de la plaque, tandis que la dernière photo donne la hauteur maximale sur le bord de la plaque.
This penultimate picture shows the minimum height of the edge of the tile, while the final one shows the maximum height of the tile on it`s edge.

Wat je in het midden van de tegel doet, daar ben je vrij in,
Alles wat niet zichtbaar is maakt niet uit welke kleur het is.
Vous êtes libres à faire ce que vous voulez au centre de la plaque, la couleur de tout ce qui n’est pas visible n’a pas d’importance. 
What you do in the middle of the tile, is free for everyone.
Everything that isn't visible doesn`t matter of course what colour it is in.

Nee geen Dark Ages gekend aangezien wij nog maar recentelijk met Lego zijn gestart (Tom heeft al wel in zijn jonge jaren met lego gespeeld)

No, we didn`t have any Dark Ages as we only recently started with Lego (though tom did play with Lego in his childhood).

BeLUG goes to... Haspengouw Swingt

We gaan onze schouders zetten onder een klein eventje in't limburgse..

De mensen van Haspengouw Swingt zouden hun zondagactiviteit laten draaien rond LEGO...


Wij krijgen de evenementenzaal ter beschikking op zondag 17 september om te vullen met onze creaties...
We zitten momenteel nog rond de onderhandelingstafel, maar willen zeker er toch een (ingekorte) avondactiviteit aan toevoegen.

Meer info volgt nog, maar markeer de datum alvast in jullie kalender en hopelijk tot dan, in het mooie Limburg.

Death Star Trench Run

Fellow BeLUG member Tom Vanhaelen has been tinkering with Star wars Microbuilds lately, and here is the fantastic looking result!

He build a part of the Trench Run on the Death Star, but instead of the usual X Wings and TIE Fighters you tend to see on that run, he opted to use an Y Wing.

The ships is greatly detailed considering it`s size (for example, the bars of the engines are wizard staves), and the trench itself is full of lovely gribblies!
