Deze week hebben
we iemand te gast die vooral in de historical / fantasy sfeer bouwt. Ik had reeds met hem een tof gesprek op Brick
Mania Antwerpen 2015, waar ik leerde wie zijn inspiratie bron was (Derfel
Cadarn btw), maar laat ik hem vooral zelf zijn verhaal vertellen...
This week I`m having someone for a guest who mainly
builds in the historical / fantasy range.
I already had a nice chat with him at Brick Mania Antwerp 2015, where I
learned who his inspiration source was (Derfel Cadarn btw), but let us tell him
his story...

Mijn naam is Daniel
Vermeir. Ik durf weleens online schuilgaan onder de naam Viggen, maar meestal
hou ik het bij mijn echte naam. Mijn lidnummer is 692.
My name is Daniel Vermeir. I tend
to go on the internet under the nickname Viggen, but usually I use my real
name. My member number is 692.
Wat is je interesse in Lego?
What is your intrest in Lego?
Mijn interesse in
lego is de laatste 3 jaar in een heropleving gekomen door met mijn “oude” lego
te proberen een aantal klassieke huisjes te maken om in een stad te zetten.
Door dan meer op te
zoeken over hoe je MOC’s maakt, eens naar de beurs te gaan in Wetteren, dacht
ik verdorie, er zijn toch veel volwassenen die dit doen? En dan ben ik er ook
maar terug aan begonnen.
My intrest in Lego had a ressurgence in the past 3 years due to trying
to build a few classic houses with my "old" Lego and place them in a
city.
By researching more about how you go about building MOC's, and visiting
the event in Wetteren, I thought "damnit, there are plenty of adults doing
this?" And that is when I started
again.
Wat zijn je
favoriete thema`s geweest over de jaren heen?
What have been your favorite theme's over the years?
Heb als kind
voornamelijk een aantal kleine ruimtesets gehad, maar het grootste deel bestond
uit “robin hood bosmannetjes” en “castle”.
I had a couple of space sets when i was a child, but the most part it
was "Robin Hood forestmen" and "Castle".
Heb je recentelijk
nog toffe dingen aangeschaft?

Een aantal Star
Wars kleine setjes en een aantal collectable minifigs. De meeste dingen koop ik
echter in functie van wat er in de set zit (hoe herbruikbaar ze zijn in mijn
MOC’s). Dus de kleuren bruin, grijs, zand, … komen geruim aan bod!
A couple of small Star Wars sets and a few Colelctible Minifigs. Most of the things I tend to buy for what is
in the set (how useable are they in my MOC's).
So the colours brown, grey, tan... they are high on the list.
Waar ben je
uitzonderlijk trots op in je collectie?
Which makes you extremely proud in your collection?
Op mijn
verdeelbakjes! De enige manier om het bouwen van een MOC een beetje vlot te
laten gaan. Alles gaat telkens terug op zijn zelfde plaats in de bakjes,
waardoor ik een stuk zoek, ik het meestal wel gewoon weet liggen in plaat van
er op zoek naar te gaan.
Uiteraard zijn er
ook legosetjes die wel leuk zijn, maar de meeste setten die ik écht wil (en dan
niet om te hergebruiken in mijn MOC’s), zijn zowat de “onbetaalbare” zoals de
originele Millenium Falcon, en Imperial Cruiser van Star Wars, of de reeks van
The Hobbit & Lord Of The Rings.

to make building a MOC going smoothly. Everything returns to it's exact spot in the
boxes, so when I`m looking for a piece, I usually know where to find it instead
of having to look for it.
Of course there are Lego sets I like, but most of the sets I really want
(and then not for using in MOC's), are some of the most expensive around like
the original Millenium Falcon and Imperial Cruiser from Star Wars, or the
ranges of The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings.
Heb je een `Holy
Grail` set, en zo ja de welke?
Do you have a 'Holy Grail' set, and if so, which one?
Een voor mijzelf
Holy Grail heb ik nog niet. Wel heb ik het Parijs Restaurant, de Tower Bridge,
de groene Mini enz, maar deze staan niet in elkaar omdat ze veelal gebruikt
worden in de MOCS. Van opgebouwde LEGO is het toffe er meestal af. Het bouwen
is de échte fun hé?
I don`t have a personal Holy Grail. I have the Paris Restuarant, the Tower Bridge,
the green Mini etc., but these aren't assembled because they are mostly used in
MOC's. The coolness is usually gone from
assembled sets. The building is where
the real fun is right?
Wat zijn eventuele bouw- of verzamelplannen voor de nabije en verre toekomst?
What are the plans for building- or collecting in the near and far
future?
Zou graag dus nog
mijn holy grails binnenhalen, zoals de écht grote Star Wars setten met alle
Minifigs erbij. Het ultieme Star Wars plan zou natuurlijk zijn een MOC
millenium Falcon te maken.
Ook zou ik graag
als volgende MOC een bestaand kasteel namaken. In plaats van de fantasie de
vrije loop te laten (wat ik tot nu toe meestal heb gedaan), gewoon proberen een
echt gebouw om te zetten in LEGO. Ik dacht hierbij aan het Gravensteen in Gent,
maar zijn veel ronde vormen maken dit niet echt de meest toegankelijke set om
als eerste te gaan proberen.
I would love to get those holy grail sets, like the real big Star wars
sets with all the minifigures included.
The ultimate Star wars plan would of course be to build a MOC with the
Millenium Falcon.
I also would love to build an existing castle for my next MOC. Instead of letting imagination run wild (like
I did until now), I would love to try my hand at recreating an existing
building into LEGO. I was thinking about
the Gravensteen in Ghent for this, but with all it's round shapes it isn`t the
most accessible build to try as a first one.

Eens ik het
ouderlijk huis heb verlaten bleef de LEGO daar achter. Je zit in een prille
relatie en gaat samen wonen dus voor LEGO is er dan niét veel tijd
Toen een 3-tal jaar
geleden ik thuis aan het “gamen” was, zij mijn vrouw, of ik dat niet vreselijk
vond, heel de dag op het werk aan een pc en dan nog eens thuiskomen en daar ook
achter dat scherm gaan zitten.
Toen ik haar vroeg
wat ik dan wel kon doen als hobby buiten pc-games, zei ze : ik weet het niet?
LEGO of zo? Bouw eens iets? Diezelfde avond ben ik bij mijn ouderlijk huis mijn
“boeltje” gaan oppikken en voila, daar gingen we weer!
Once I spread my wings from my parent's house, the Lego remained with
them. You're in a young relationship,
moving in together, and as such there isn't much time for Lego.
While I was "gaming" at home about 3 years ago, my wife asked
me if I didn`t dislike that a lot.
Sitting a whole day behind a PC at work, and when i got home I would go
sit behind a screen again.
When i asked her what I could do then instead as a hobby, she replied
"I don't know? Lego or something like that? Try building something?". That same evening I went to my parents to
collect my "stuff" and hop, there we went again.
